Meditation for children!

WHEN DO WE TEACH LOVE?

To CC’s, meditation is one of the many answers to this question. The general definition of meditation is to focus the attention on a particular theme with a corresponding withdrawal of attention from outside stimuli. This usually results in a state of relaxation where the children learn to concentrate one thing for extended periods of time, which causes more rapid learning potential. Through consistent meditation the child may expand his awareness and creative imagination.

Meditating even only a few minutes a day has proven to reduce stress, boost immunity, aid memory and concentration, decrease depression and anxiety, and even make you more compassionate. Did you know that kids also can benefit from it and it’s easy for a little one to learn mindfulness meditation?

MEDITATION WITH TODDLERS/KIDS, WHERE DO I BEGIN?

Make a practice for both, you and the little one, with only a couple minutes daily you can start creating the habit, a simple guided meditation or just a planned silence time will help to keep children engaged.

Make sure to start small and slow, there is no need to rush, the more you do it, the better you’ll get, and the more obvious the positive effects will be. You can start with 3 minutes daily and according to the child response increase little by little.

Be patient, do not expect instant success. It is a growth process like any other with both successes and failures. The results will become apparent as you listen to their responses and notice their increasing care and respect for themselves and each other.

Want to start but have no idea where? Here a fun and calming meditation from the book ‘Meditating with children, by Deborah Rozman’:

The WAVE MEDITATION

Imagine you are a wave on the sea going up … and … down . up and … down … as you breathe in … and, .. out … in . and out. Imagine how you feel, what you see (after a minute’s silence I would continue). Now concentrate again on your breathing. (After 30 seconds) I’m going to count slowly to the count of three and when you are ready slowly open your eyes (one … two … three … )

THE BENEFITS

Through meditation children learn patience, kindness, acceptance, and generosity. Meditation strengthens children’s relationship with their inner selves, their mind/body connection, and development of their own personality—all of which make them better able to lead more positive lives and make positive choices for themselves.

We listed 3 of the many benefits of meditating:

  1. Help improve sleeping patterns
  2. Help with technology addiction
  3. Reach their full potential

Here at CC’s Eco we want children to be healthy and happy, not just now, but for a lifetime. And teaching them to meditate early can help with that.
